Carpentry Department Overview

Build a sturdy foundation for career success
While physical dexterity and coordination are key elements to succeeding in this profession, carpentry also requires a keen mind. The SCC carpentry program will provide you with the core hands-on training you’ll need to become skilled in the carpentry craft and will prepare you to tackle the more complicated aspects of this enduring profession as well.

General carpenters do everything from laying the foundation of a building - to framing the structure - to providing interior and external finishing services. They are in demand on both residential and commercial construction projects, on new builds and on rehabs. Whether your ambition is to be a general carpenter or become more specialized in one area of expertise, the solid base of construction theory and practices you receive at South Central College will serve you well.

Many of South Central College’s carpentry students go directly to work in the construction industry, but some go on to pursue bachelor’s degrees in construction management or other related fields.
